About

Australia's print and packaging trade, on the record

The Print Register is a national trade masthead for the people who make, convert, design and buy print: commercial printers, packaging converters, label houses, print and graphic designers, and serious print buyers.

The name

"In register" is the press-room term for colour landing exactly where it should; a register is also a kept public record. Both meanings are the job description. In running copy we call it the Register.

The beat

Technology and process (offset, digital, screen, wide-format, labels), treated as documents to read critically rather than releases to reprint. The packaging transition: APCO's targets and data, DCCEEW's regulation reform, the recycling labels and deposit schemes, soft plastics. Standards and colour: ISO 12647, PDF/X, ICC, G7. Substrates, stock and finishes. Industry data: ABS series, producer prices, industry structure. The geography is real: the trade clusters in western Sydney, Melbourne's south-east and Brisbane, and the shows alternate between Sydney and Melbourne; stories name places because plants, presses and jobs live in places.

The rules we operate under

Every factual claim links its primary source. Vendor claims are attributed, not adopted. We cover machines, companies, standards and decisions, never private individuals. No outrage, no partisanship. Quiet weeks publish nothing. The full method, including the AI disclosure and the corrections process, is on how this site works.

The money

Free to read, funded by clearly labelled advertising. Advertising never buys editorial; sponsored content meets the same citation bar and is plainly marked. If that line works for your business, start the conversation.

Contact

Everything reaches the desk through the tips page: news tips (identity optional), corrections (checked against the cited documents, outcome logged) and advertising enquiries. The RSS feed carries every new story.
